Through S.A.M.’s® random
filing system, empty slots created by tapes housed in robot
or offsite storage facilities are eliminated. Additionally,
S.A.M.® tracks the date tapes were last requested by
drives and runs a simple report that indicates which tapes
have not been used for specific periods of time. These
tapes are identified and can be moved to a less expensive
storage area.
By using S.A.M.®, the tape library will eventually
be sectioned by activity levels -- keeping the most active
tapes close to the tape drives -- allowing you to manage
library space in a more efficient and cost-effect manner
